Getting to Know Aries

When Aries arrived at Roberts Ranch in January 2026, we were both stepping into something new.

Just turning five in May, this Friesian cross gelding was adjusting to a new environment, a new herd and a new routine. I was learning what it means to care for and build a relationship with a young horse. As it turns out, both of us had a lot to learn.

The first few months have been less about riding and more about learning the fundamentals of horse care. From hoof care and grooming to finding the right nutrition program, every day has brought something new. After plenty of research and advice from experienced horse owners, Aries now enjoys a feed program built around Omolene 100, quality alfalfa hay from Grand Bay Alfalfa Pomaika'i Farm and access to forage and shelter at Roberts Ranch 24/7.

I've spent countless hours simply watching him—how he interacts with his pasture mates, how he responds to new situations and the little quirks that make him uniquely Aries.

He's curious, confident and always interested in what's happening around him. He approaches new challenges with enthusiasm, sometimes charging ahead before fully thinking things through. He has opinions, a playful streak and a personality that seems to grow bigger every day.

Along the way, I've learned that horses communicate constantly. Every ear flick, glance, step away or step toward tells a story. Building trust isn't something that happens all at once; it's created through small everyday interactions and showing up consistently.

One thing’s for sure, there’s never a dull moment with Aries.
